The Date for Oxford Street’s Magical Christmas Light Switch On Has Been Announced

It’s coming round to that time of year again folks. And the glitziest light display in the city, obviously Oxford Street’s, have announced their big switch on. This year it’s different. Here’s what you need to know.

We know, summer’s barely over. But it’s not our fault everyone cracks on with Christmas stuff so early.

Oxford street is turning on the lights pretty soon. The 2nd of November to be precise.

You know it’ll swing around fast, and we know you’ll wanna be there.

It’s never anything less than magical. And a pretty good way to get warmed up for Christmas while doing a little gift shopping.

What to Expect

Oxford Street

Oh, only 5000 stars criss crossing Oxford Street as far as the eye can see.

They’ll be on every night over the festive period. No date on when they go off yet, but it’s usually early january.

And this year they’re doing it differently.

What’s New

Oxford Street

In response to the UK’s cost of living crisis, and to the meltdown of the planet’s delicate ecosystems, they’ve taken a more sustainable approach to lighting up your Christmas.

This year they’ve chosen to go for lights made from a recycled polymer that makes them 75% more efficient than the normal Xmas light bulb.

That’s no small figure when you consider it takes 300,000 light bulbs to light these stars up.

Plus, they’re totally recyclable so they can go on to be used for the light display next year, and the year after that, ad (we hope) infinitum.

They’ve also decided to reduce the time the lights will be on each day a little.

All of this means that Oxford Street’s light show will consume two thirds less energy than it did last year.

We like that, and so we’ll ignore the obvious irony that they’re lighting up a street that is London’s veritable mecca for consumption.
