Farringdon sits on the western fringe of the City of London, bordering Clerkenwell, Smithfield and Blackfriars, with the boundary between the City and the London Borough of Islington running through the area.
On the outer fringes of the City of London, Farringdon has a character all of its own, where the glass towers of the Square Mile give way to old bars, late-night spots and more than a few historical gems.
It’s still part of London’s financial centre, just far less brash about it.
We’ve worked in and around Farringdon for years, and there’s more to the area than appears at first glance. It isn’t large, and the boundaries between Farringdon and its neighbours of Clerkenwell, Blackfriars and Ludgate Hill are always up for debate, but it packs in a lot for its size. Financial workers rub shoulders with market traders, students and a steady flow of people cutting through on their way to Clerkenwell or the City.
Just when we think we’ve seen everything, drunk in every bar and eaten in every restaurant, somewhere new turns up. That mix of workaday City overspill and genuine history is what keeps Farringdon interesting.
