Welcome to London x London’s Muswell Hill Guide: your guide to the best bars, restaurants and things to do in this North London neighbourhood.
Muswell Hill sits in the London Borough of Haringey, between Highgate to the south and Crouch End to the west, with Alexandra Park forming its eastern edge.
Muswell Hill takes its name from a spring said to have cured a Scottish king, which turned the area into a medieval pilgrimage destination.
These days the pilgrims have been replaced by locals who like their London a little quieter.
The village was gradually swallowed by Edwardian London’s urban sprawl, leaving the Muswell Hill many Londoners would recognise today, crisscrossed with terraces of homes and sleepy streets, topped by Alexandra Palace at the hill’s peak and its sprawling park below.
It’s a genuinely lovely place to be based if you want London without the hassle of the centre, though the centre is never too far away.
