Windrush 75 is near – and the famous festival of Caribbean culture returns for high summer.

With summer in full swing and a heat permeating the city it’s time again for the return of London’s top festival of Caribbean culture.

Windrush 75: Radiate Festival comes around every year in June to celebrate the contributions made by the Windrush generation, and the culture of the islands that they came from.

This year – the 6th year running – will be bigger and better, featuring heaps of culture to sink your teeth into. The festival usually takes the form of a main stage with musicians doing their thing throughout the two days (24th + 25th June), and a mix of food stalls slinging Caribbean Classics, as well as art and craft stalls to peruse.

Here’s what to expect…

This Year’s Line Up

Windrush 75 Festival

The line up for this year’s music includes Terri Lyons – an internationally renowned soca and calypso musician flying in from Trinidad – Donaeo, Richie Spice and Misha B as well as heaps of up-and-coming UK musical talent (they have a whole show dedicated to Grammy-nominated talent).

As well as that, you can expect DJ sets around the festival as you check out the attractions that range as widely as street-art murals by Quincy Logie to a 74-piece photographic series on Caribbean culture.

The festival also takes a look into the past with an exhibition of vintage wear – namely the clothes that defined fashion for the Windrush generation. There’s also sections on the style of haircuts and the model of cars that were popular back then.

The festival is spread over two days so you’ve got plenty of time to take it all in. You can book tickets here.
