The Best Pubs in Hammersmith

The Andover Arms

Tucked back on Aldensley Road, The Andover Arms is a rustic, family-friendly pub featuring distressed wood, cosy corners, and a big, roaring fire. Portraits adorn the walls, low lighting helps to create an inviting atmosphere, and friendly staff and patrons welcome you as you enter.

If you’re in the mood for food (which should be always), the changing daily menu boasts a combination of British classics like fish and chips, traditional London pies, and fresh, seasonal delights.

Drinks-wise, expect a mix of basic ales, as well as a small craft beer selection, wines, and soft drinks.

The Blue Anchor

Sitting on the Lower Mall right at the water’s edge, The Blue Anchor might just be the best riverside pub Hammersmith boasts. It’s perfect for spending those balmy, summer evenings sitting outside with friends.

Located next to the clubhouse for the Auriol Kensington Rowing Club, the spacious outdoor seating is great for taking in the action.

Or, for rainy days (a fairly often occurrence in London, we won’t lie), the lavish upstairs room offers a modern, inviting space to sample the varied menu – order the classic steak and chips, we implore you – peruse the generous wine list, and take in the pretty view.

The Swan

Away from the water on Hammersmith Broadway, The Swan is an inviting mix of stylish decor and traditional charm, boasting a friendly landlord, a large batch of cask ales, and a gin menu to die for – it’s a Nicholson’s, so you know you’re getting a quality pub experience.

Built in 1901, this grade II listed building is just a 4-minute walk from the Apollo theatre with perfect transport links to the rest of the capital.

Whether it’s a night on the town, or grabbing a bite to eat before a show, The Swan’s combination of home-cooked food and swanky interior makes it a prime pitstop for weary travellers.

The Salutation

With an eye-catching tiled facade donning West Ham colours, this pub in Hammersmith is certainly hard to miss. Built on King Street in 1750, The Salutation blends old-school London charm with timeless decor, and a family-friendly atmosphere suited to all.

Distressed wood and comfortable leather seating adorn the bar, and the friendliness of the attentive staff make it a great place to relax with a pint, grab some classic British pub grub, and forget about the world outside.

As expected from a Fuller’s, the drinks selection isn’t out of this world – but you’ve got all the classic beers, wines, and softs, with a few craft options too. And the atmosphere more than makes up for it.

The Black Lion

Another of the many Hammersmith river pubs, The Black Lion boasts a colourful history of ghost stories, local folklore, and being the site of a world famous skittle alley.

If this isn’t enough, the local-run pub has a wealth of fresh, home-cooked pub food, a range of fan-favourite ales, and a modern yet cosy interior, suited for a quiet pint or a meal out with friends and family.

However, what really sells The Black Lion is the large, walled beer garden, channelling the feel of a remote country pub right in the heart of the city.

Latymers

If something different is what you’re looking for, Latymers is certainly the place for you.

Located on Hammersmith Road, this pub boasts a wide range of craft and traditional drinks, a trendy, inviting atmosphere, and a popular menu of home-cooked, award-winning Thai cuisine that has become something of a legend amongst locals and visitors alike.

This is definitely a pub of many faces, and the friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere make it equally suited to casual drinks, romantic dinner dates, or even business meetings.

The Hammersmith Ram

If you’re in need of a good all-rounder, The Hammersmith Ram is the perfect pub in West London – it blends traditional features with a bright, clean modernity akin to a city bar.

Whether you want to spend a cosy night by the fire (you definitely should), or grab a spot of light lunch on the go, The Hammersmith Ram has got you covered with a wide selection of drinks, an accommodating menu, and a relaxing atmosphere.

The Old Ship

When it comes to Hammersmith riverside pubs, The Old Ship is a much-adored staple in the area.

Dark glossy walls adorned with portraits really give the place a sense of character, while the view of the river from the outdoor terrace makes this a prime spot for taking in the boat racing, or simply enjoying the sunshine.

With a wide range of drinks (beers, wines, spirits, and softs – you name it, they’ve got it), and a menu of classic pub dishes, The Old Ship is the perfect place to kick back, relax and enjoy your surroundings.
