Doodle Discovery lands across Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square and St James’s Market from today until 30 August, with five two-metre sculptures, a new wall mural and prizes including Royal Academy tickets.
London’s West End woke up this morning with five giant Mr Doodle sculptures scattered across it, and if you’re anywhere near Piccadilly or Leicester Square today you’re going to want to find them.
Mr Doodle’s Doodle Discovery, presented by Art of London, launches today as a free outdoor art trail running until 30 August. Five two-metre sculptures, each covered in the artist’s instantly recognisable black-and-white doodle style with bold pops of colour, are positioned across three West End locations, each one themed around a different aspect of the neighbourhood’s cultural life.
In Leicester Square: a bright orange fish adorned with cinema-inspired doodles, and a blue robot celebrating community and creativity. In Piccadilly Circus: a cheerful yellow flower with theatre references woven through it, and a pink character decorated with art and gallery imagery. In St James’s Market: a red cyclops whose doodles celebrate the area’s food and drink scene. Together they form a lively open-air gallery trail through one of London’s most visited neighbourhoods.
Mr Doodle, whose real name is Sam Cox, has been covering surfaces in his signature doodle style since childhood, graduating from his parents’ furniture to sketchbooks to entire buildings and collaborations with Disney, Samsung and Fendi. Earlier today he completed one of the sculptures live in Leicester Square as part of a public doodling event, with visitors contributing their own ideas and drawings to the design.
A new 5m x 5m wall mural by Mr Doodle has also been unveiled in St James’s Market, and his artwork took over the Piccadilly Lights to mark the launch.

The London x London Take: Mr Doodle’s work is genuinely joyful and the West End locations are well chosen. As a free trail through streets you might otherwise rush through, it’s a good excuse to slow down and actually look at a neighbourhood that deserves more attention than it usually gets. Good for families, good for anyone who wants a structured reason to wander.
