Crafty Fox Market’s Samples & Seconds Sale comes to the National Theatre on Sunday 16 August, with 40 independent designers, discounts up to 75% and the NT’s first ever public props sale.
Two things are happening at the National Theatre on 16 August that are worth knowing about separately, and even better together.
The first is Crafty Fox Market’s Samples & Seconds Sale, making its National Theatre debut after 15 years of connecting London’s independent makers with new audiences. Forty carefully curated independent creative businesses will be selling samples, end-of-line collections and beautifully imperfect pieces at discounts of up to 75%: handcrafted jewellery, ceramics, homeware, prints, textiles, fashion and accessories, all from small independent makers who rarely get a platform this visible. The Step Up strand runs alongside it, showcasing the emerging creative businesses Crafty Fox has been nurturing through its support programme.
The second thing is considerably more unusual. The National Theatre is holding its first ever public props sale, giving theatre lovers the chance to browse and buy a curated selection of props from previous productions. What those productions are and what those props include haven’t been confirmed yet, but the prospect of owning an actual piece of stage history from one of the world’s great theatres is not something that comes up often. This is worth going for on its own.
Together, the two events make for a genuinely good Sunday on the South Bank. Free entry, no booking required beyond a free Eventbrite ticket, and you’re already at the National Theatre which gives you every excuse to stay for a show.
