December is London’s most theatrical month, and the city leans into it completely. The Christmas markets arrive, the ice rinks open, the shop windows go to extraordinary lengths, and the whole place operates at a heightened version of itself for four weeks straight. There’s a reason people visit London specifically in December: it does this season better than almost anywhere.
But beyond the obvious, December also has some of the year’s strongest cultural programming. The theatre is at its most ambitious, the exhibition season is running hot, and the restaurants and bars are doing the most creative work of their year.
